Mitch Lyons
For MSU Trustee
A New Generation of Conservative Leadership

August 30, 2010

Thank you, thank you, and thank you!  I am humbled and greatly appreciative of your confidence in me to be one of the two Republican Candidates for the Michigan State University Board of Trustees.  I will not let you down.

My objective from now until November and after is very simple. I will be aggressively advocating and communicating the need for MSU’s return to the Land Grant philosophy by specifically serving the people of the State of Michigan.  Those areas include but are not limited to:

  • Number one priority is to focus on Michigan students attending MSU.  Land Grant Institutions were created, designed and funded specifically to provide an educational opportunity for the sons and daughters of families in each state. The students from Michigan High Schools must be MSU’s number one priority.
  • Michigan students deserve to be able to attend MSU at an affordable price.  Graduating students from MSU, (especially Michigan students) who have been forced to mortgage their futures with loans to do so is unacceptable and is hurting our economy.
  • Research and other projects conducted at MSU needs to be more specifically focused on growing Michigan’s economy and businesses.  If research or special projects doesn’t have an application to help Michigan, we should evaluate if MSU should be doing them in the first place.
  • More priority and emphasis must take place on program areas that are based upon industries, careers, businesses and opportunities within the State of Michigan.  MSU must be the leader in helping our economy by creating a workforce that is in demand within our state.
  • Last but not least and you all expect this from me . . . I will make sure all MSU sports programs represent the State of Michigan with a high degree of class and integrity.  Winning is a part of that, but how you win is just as important.

Thank you again for your vote of confidence this last weekend.  We all know that being ahead at half time doesn’t win the ballgame.  So as we get ready for the second half of this contest, I would appreciate your continued support to finish strong in November.
